Member for Pittwater Rory Amon has called on the NSW Labor Government to support local police in combatting the ongoing issue of hooning.
“Residents report a substantial increase in hooning activity across Pittwater, with convoys of motorists travelling at unsafe speeds, causing chaos on our main roads and disturbing quiet residential streets,” said Mr Amon.
Hooning activity is concentrated along Barrenjoey Road to Palm Beach and McCarrs Creek Road, Church Point. Convoys are clearly organised, travelling similar routes at the same time each week.
Mr Amon has made several requests for the Labor Government to expand their trial of noise cameras to include key locations in Pittwater. Sadly, the Government has declined these requests to date.
“The Pittwater community is becoming increasingly frustrated with the convoys of hoons plaguing our roads. We cannot continue to allow intentionally reckless behaviour to occur on our roads. Our local police need support and resources to crackdown on hooning and educate motorists. I have written to the Police Minister asking that these resources be provided urgently to prevent accidents, injuries, and the loss of amenity associated with unreasonable levels of noise,” said Mr Amon.
