Funding Wins for Pittwater Sports Groups

Member for Pittwater Rory Amon has welcomed the announcement of $50,000 in funding for sporting groups across Pittwater.

“The Pittwater community loves sport. Whether playing, watching early Saturday morning winter sports or cheering on the Sea Eagles, sport is for everyone. It would not be possible for so many in our community to enjoy such activities without the countless clubs and associations, and their many volunteers. I am excited to announce $50,000 in funding for some brilliant sporting groups across Pittwater,” said Mr Amon in a speech to Parliament.

The funding has been awarded as part of the 2023-24 round of the NSW Office of Sport’s Local Sport Grant Program, which is designed to support grassroots sporting clubs in increasing participation, hosting events, improving access, and enhancing sport and recreation facilities. The following Pittwater projects have received funding:

• $20,000 to Terrey Hills Tennis Club to upgrade their outdated women’s and men’s bathrooms.

• $17,367 to Manly Warringah Basketball Association for equipment for its wheelchair basketball program.

• $8,997.50 to Avalon Sailing Club to upgrade their bathrooms and changeroom facilities.

• $3,635.50 to Manly Warringah District Baseball Association to upgrade the batting nets at Rat Park in Warriewood.

“It is fantastic to see so many sport groups in Pittwater eager to increase participation and accessibility. This funding will go a long way in supporting the amazing volunteers that make local sporting groups so successful in Pittwater. Congratulations to Terrey Hills Tennis Club, Manly Warringah Basketball Association, Avalon Sailing Club and Manly Warringah District Baseball Association, on this well-deserved funding. I look forward to visiting soon!” said Mr Amon.

“The Local Sport Grant Program, from the NSW Office of Sport, will have a marked effect on growing and strengthening our wheelchair basketball program. Supporting the Manly Wheel Eagles, means we can support people in our community living with disability and their family and friends. The grant allows us to fund specialised equipment such as a sports wheelchair, tools & parts, as well as training gear like uniforms and basketballs. We are very proud to have our wheelchair basketball program acknowledged and very appreciative of the support,” said Elisa Spano on behalf of the Manly Warringah Wheelchair Basketball.

Mr Amon is encouraging all sporting groups in Pittwater to get in contact with his office for information about future funding opportunities, email – pittwater@parliament.nsw.gov.au.
