Amon Budget Submission

Member for Pittwater Rory Amon has called on the Minns Labor Government to provide funding for essential projects in Pittwater in its second Budget, being delivered on 18 June 2024.

“In the Minns Government’s first Budget there was serious evidence of postcode politics, with funding for essential projects in Pittwater cut, including the $340 million widening of Mona Vale Road West.

“Despite last year’s cuts, I remain an optimist. I have continued to liaise with various Government Minister to convey the needs of the Pittwater community. In their second Budget, the Minns Government has a chance to make good on their promise to govern for all New South Wales. To that end, I have written to the Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Finance to bring various essential projects to their direct attention,” said Mr Amon.

Mr Amon’s correspondence sought Labor commitments to support the critical needs of the Pittwater community, including:

1. Reinstating the $340 million of funding to widen Mona Vale Road West from the Baha’i Temple to Kimbriki Tip,

2. Compelling Northern Beaches Council to undertake Wakehurst Parkway flood mitigation works for which they have already received $31.1million,

3. Funding for domestic violence support services across the Northern Beaches, including the Women’s Resilience Centre and Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter,

4. Restoring funding to local public schools which was reduced from $4.9 million in 2023 to $4.3 million in 2024.

The full list of projects for which Mr Amon has advocated are set out in his budget submission, dated 21 May 2024, which is provided with this Release.

“Mona Vale Road West, Beaches Link Tunnel, a Renal Dialysis Unit at Mona Vale Hospital, a new pre-school at Terrey Hills Public School and a full upgrade Narrabeen Sports High School were committed to by the former Liberal Government, with significant funds already allocated. The Minns Government has cut, cancelled, delayed, or reduced funding for each of these essential projects. The Pittwater community deserves better, I am asking the Government to come to the table, and treat Pittwater fairly when finalising their second Budget,” said Mr Amon.
